NotAYacht
Immortalize your pet. Fund independent journalism.
In 1919, a wealthy Scotsman named James Cowan Smith left over £52,000 to the National Galleries of Scotland on one condition: they must permanently display a painting of his dog. That painting still hangs in the Scottish National Gallery today.
Rich people used to spend money on eccentric public goods. Now there’s an entire industry catering to the ultra-wealthy: megayachts, private islands, political influence. The public gets nothing.
NotAYacht modernizes the idea. Donate any amount, upload a picture of your pet, and we use that money to buy ads on independent news outlets. The ad features your pet and links to a page telling their story.
How it works
- You donate and upload your pet’s photo.
- We pool donations and buy ads on NPR (and soon: ProPublica, the Guardian, and other independent outlets).
- Your pet gets a permanent page on this site. The ad links back to it.
Next NPR batch
$55 of $100
Sub-$100 donations pool together. When the pool hits $100, a batch ad with up to 20 pets goes live on NPR.
